Attachment and Detachment
Yesterday, I read a Buddhist book written by a Tibetian nun. Cannot really remember her name but there are some pointers in the book which she explained in layman's terms for us urban things to grasp and understand better, esp those who are like me, good in English sux in Chinese haha...
Attachment: We attach too much feelings to a person or inert stuff. This can lead to unreasonable expectations of the person from us leading to arguments and frustrations. When it is time to let go, being too attached to the person or thing can really lead to depression. It is what everyone says, "Not facing up to reality."
Detachment: It does not mean that we do not feel empathy or sympathy for anyone. It only means that we have come to terms with the fact and realise and can accept the reality and the truth so that we do not cause ourselves to become more miserable for no reason. The time to feel compassionate we should. When it is time to finally let go to achieve greater happiness when we know the truth and that reality is right in front of us, we should do so. If not, we will only subject ourselves to further and deeper unhappiness which will affect those who care about us.
Hope this entry has been of some help to you, the reader. I may not be able to express my thoughts into words as clearly as I will like to but this is more of less the gist of it. Thank You.
