Youngsters Apathetic About Singapore?
Recently, our national newspapers have alot of column space devoted to this topic on whether our youngsters, namely the young adults and the teenagers, are apathetic towards the future, political, well-being our our nation.
Are we really guilty or are we not? It seems so subjective. To me, I am not so "bo chap" towards my home nation, Singapore. Why? Just to quote this author who I dunno what the hell was his name, who was having a promotion at Kinokuniya at Orchard, "Singapore is one of the few nations, if not the only, in this world, whereby children of lawyers, judges, businessmen and businesswomen, cleaners, who can sit together in the same classroom, wear the same uniform and study together." Yup, he was right. We should be proud of this.
Another thing. We are called to served the nation for two years, we male Singaporeans, and many of us go through this "fuck up" experience with pride. Why? If we do not do the job, can we trust another nation to do the job with loyalty? NO! We can't! At least many of us can share the common "hellish" experience of that two years with other males as bonding time, laughing it off as "nothing much" in a few years time. Good experience.
Politics wise, we are ok with what the current ruling party is doing as they take the post of the Government. Many things really sux when we first know about it, but, it gets to us that it is actually good for the long term. Take the HDB flats, the expressways, the new schools which are built with speed with all the new equipments which my generations did not have the joy of having. Complain for what man~ If want to change anything, please lah, go and give more constructive feedbacks lei.
When we go about on self improvement courses and personal development, are we not in our part, helping the nation to become better as a whole? Just like a building, you see a building but beneath it, beams of steel, concrete and many countless bricks make it so.
So..... Are we really apathetic towards our nation or is it just some narrow-minded people who just saw some black sheeps and label the rest of us so? I shall take my leave now and leave this thought in you, my precious reader. Thanks.
